Extract 1 

They say you renounce your title when you join the Protectorate. But the name of Brod seems to have afforded me some immunity to this. Old habits, I suppose. For as long as my house rules in Maliera, they will call me Lord Volent Brod. 



Extract 2 

"Such is the duty of the Protectorate", they tell us. 

That might be enough for a simple warrior like me, but a sense of duty does little to prepare my knights for this. We give our lives, and more, willingly. But our names are forgotten as swiftly as the small sun rises. Folk even seem to be confused as to whether our role is to protect the forest from the world, or the world from the forest.
