Diary of Prieme Emaline Meadowflower
Pray the GODS look upon me with joy

[This diary contains various rambling entries written by Emaline Meadowflower. Two of the entries catch your eye.]

Dear diary,

Alas, where once I felt a strange joy, thinking that some shy soul had been taking books from the chapel to feed their learning of the great watchers, it seems as though I was mistaken. For just this morning I found a little pile of ash, some 20 meters east of the chapel, still smouldering. In the glimmering ash I read words from cherished tomes of the words of the GODS; words which once brought me to jubilation, but now bring me desperation for my kind.

Hence I have vowed to resign myself to the chapel tower, until I have pieced together the fragments of these holy texts, even if I must do so from memory.

I pray the GODS look upon me with joy and guide my hand as I write,

Dear diary,

A boy, a scrawny little retch, asked me today: "Prieme Emaline, Prieme Emaline! Why do you always write the word ‘GODS’ in capitals?". And so I told the child; the GODS, almighty and benevolent as they are, allowed us the gift of true understanding of their ways. The elves, the dwarves, the drow, orcs and the fools of our own kind together may keep their fake gods, and those with the understanding, who even in an entire life of pure, unadulterated, unflinching, unrelenting devotion to their name — to the extent that we even show reverence through the full capitalisation of their name — may emblazon the true GODS with only a fraction of the worship that which they are due.

Alas, the poor retch understood not, and in fact I doubt his interest in his own question anyway, since the ignorant little boy must have waddled off whilst I was talking; I was pointing out the holy scriptures on the walls of my dearest Wellwatch Chapel, and when I looked back for him, he was gone and the Chapel door left wide open. He will clearly never show the devotion to which the GODS command and deserve.

I pray the GODS look upon me with joy and guide my hand as I write,
